Motivate Yourself to Exercise

Have you started an exercise routine and then stopped after a few sessions? Don’t worry. You’re not alone.

There are a lot of things that can hinder us from working towards our health and fitness goals. These include busy schedules, difficulty finding the proper exercise, and lack of motivation.

Motivation is an essential piece of the puzzle when it comes to losing weight and improving our health. Unfortunately, motivation isn’t always there. There are days when our motivation is at an all-time low, and we feel too tired to continue what we’ve started.

But the good thing is that motivation is something you can work to sustain. Here are simple strategies to help you remain motivated and stay on track with your body transformation goals.

Find your why

When it comes to losing weight, you need to be clear on why you’re doing it in the first place. Are you doing it because you want to improve your health? Or do you want to lose weight to increase your self-esteem?

Take time to think about this and be as specific as you can when outlining your reasons. Focusing on your why will keep you motivated and help you maintain a positive mindset.

Doing this also helps you set realistic and achievable goals. For example, if you want to become physically active, a short-term goal might be to walk 30 minutes a day, at least 2 times a week. An intermediate goal can be starting a new exercise routine. Then your long-term goal is to be able to do a 45-minute workout consistently, 3 times a week.

Schedule it in your calendar

If you’re struggling with a regular exercise routine, we recommend scheduling physical activities in your calendar.

Instead of saying you’re going to exercise today, dedicate specific days and times for exercise. Add them to your diary just like any other necessary appointment. Make sure this is non-negotiable, and plan your other activities around it as much as possible. Treat it as something you can’t push off to the side if something else arises.

This simple step can motivate you to stay on track and become more consistent with your exercise routine.

If you’re only starting your fitness journey, also make sure not to push yourself too much. Work your way gradually into your new routine. Then slowly increase the number of days you exercise or the duration of your workouts so it’s not overwhelming.

Create a weight loss journal

Self-monitoring is crucial for losing weight, and creating a journal is a great way to help you stick with your workout routine. You can use a journal to track your progress, identify triggers and monitor your habits. Doing so will help you better understand your weight loss goals and break them into actionable steps.

Try to add as much information as possible in this journal, including what you eat, your mood, feelings and emotion. It may seem daunting and time-consuming at first, but you’ll find that gathering this information is necessary to help you achieve your goals.

You can use a notebook as your journal, or if you’re not a fan of old-school note-taking, you can also use fitness apps that allow you to track your workouts.

Surround yourself with like-minded people

Always remember that you’re not alone in this journey. The people around you play a crucial role in achieving your health goals. So you need to surround yourself with friends and family who encourage you to keep going.

Avoid letting other people make you feel guilty about your commitment to being healthy. Instead, find someone that genuinely supports you and can be more understanding about your lifestyle choices.

Finding an exercise buddy is also beneficial in boosting your motivation. It can make exercise more enjoyable and fulfilling. If you have a workout partner, you can treat each exercise session as a social time where you can both catch up and relax.

Reward yourself

If you achieved something today, no matter how small or big, try to reward yourself. Rewards are not just about spoiling yourself. It can also help you cultivate new habits and long-term personal growth.

These rewards don’t have to be anything grand. It can be as simple as buying a new book, getting a manicure or watching a new film. Always think of celebrating success as a way to train yourself to stick to your goals.
